Anyone knows how to migrate the device and users extensions from one freepbx to another without affecting the other configurations?
I just want to basically backup and restore the device and users only.

What Philippe is saying is use the FreePBX upgrade too to take the current box up to 2.9 then migrate your data from a backup set created with the FreePBX backup tool.
You just can't restore backups between versions.
