Description

Someone suggested this on Trixbox forum and I would really like to have this option in Privacy Manager, that when someone calls from a blocked number, he should hear a prompt saying "Please unblock your number and try your call again".

Currently, the privacy manager just asks to enter the number. Anyone can enter a fake number to pass through it. Its not very effective privacy management.

  • version changed from 2.2rc1 to SVN-HEAD.
  • milestone changed from 2.2 to 2.3.

moving to 2.3 - although it's not clear to me that this is really of much more value. They can still call as an anonynous caller and then plug in their number. If you want to block all calls that come in without caller-id then fell free to modify the privacy manager macro to do it. However - that really is not a very good idea. CID is not perfect and there are completely legitimate calls that come in because of system failures, international calls that are not always transmitting cid, etc.

You didn't understand what I meant.

When a caller calls from his genuine number, privacy manager lets the call go through. When a number is blocked, privacy manager doesn't let the call pass through and asks to enter the number.

If it'll ask to unblock the number and call again, caller can't disguise himself now. He will have to hangup, unblock his number, and call again. Now asterisk will receive the true caller ID and let the call pass through.

I hope this is clear now. I think I should patent this idea.

International calls often can't send caller ID. Also payphones. I think this is a bad idea. Perhaps changing it from a 'push buttons' to 'record your name' might be a better idea?

First of all - yes 'record your name' is MUCH harder to fake. And second, perhaps we should start differentiating between "unknown" and stuff like "unavailable" or "out of area", as that is usualy whats sent for international calls
