Description

I have submitted this request a year or two ago, Rob loved it but it it was never implemented.

This is a real blocker for anyone who has a number of DID's being forwarded to an external number.

Here it is again.

Sometimes it is more important to know what number was called rather then to know what number is calling. We have many DID's and when we forward the call to a cell phone all DID information is lost we see the caller number in CID but we must know the DID info before we answer the call to know what company the caller is calling. My proposal was to add either a prefix for a CID for just substitute the CID with DID so when my cell rings i need to see (prefix mode) 002125551212 so i will know this is for company ABC and if i see 012125551212 then it is for company XYZ, or in full mode i will see that company's ABC CID when my cell is ringing with with the actual CID lost.

P.S. It will be nice to have the original CID speak out when the phone is answered and give me an option to accept/unavailable/busy, but this is just a wish where the rest is a blocker.

We also have a similar use case, where out-of-hours support calls are directed to our cell phones, but we want a specific caller ID to be used so we can identify the fact that it's a support call.

As above, the original caller ID is unimportant, but the ability to override it is very important.

I'll just point out that there is now a third-party Set CallerID module that should answer this Feature Request. Since it's not yet been accepted as part of the official distribution, it would probably not be appropriate to close this ticket, but for anyone looking for this sort of functionality you should investigate that module. If, for some reason, that module doesn't meet your needs, see the document How to change incoming CallerID for additional ways to change CallerID.

  • priority changed from blocker to minor.

There is CID Prefix in Inbound Routes that can be used to achieve this.

In most countries substituting the CID to a number that you don't own is considered invalid/illegal.
