Description

I plan to replace an old telephone system where there is an old interphone system.

I'd like to suppress the interphone system during the upgrade.

But i think i will lack an important interphone system function :

When we place a general call (paging mode), it is possible for a person to reply on an interphone pressing a button. As soon as this button is pressed, all the other interphones hang-up, and the corresponding interphone switch to duplex mode so that the two parties can speak together.

Would it be possible to do this with FreePBX and asterisk 1.2 ?

Using for example a digit key on the phone to reply from paging mode ?

Thanks for your listening

  • confirmation changed from Unreviewed to Confirmed.
  • version deleted.

it would be a very complex feature code, with the possibly need to actually write an asterisk module. Creating the feature code is not difficult, but will require the launch of an application that can discover which channels to keep in the meetme that paging creates and kill all the others.

Some work as been done recently with duplex and whistle mode. The paging / auto intercom rollover mode is a necessity for some companies.

It is quite funny to see how complex it is to implement some simple traditional telephony functions in the Asterisk world, when it is so simple to do it with analog phones.

I think that we are in this situation today because the asterisk code as been mainly developped by IP / data software specialists more than telephone specialists. And they don't like to hear the advices from the telecom world.

This is quite a pity, because if not adressed fastly in a fork, asterisk and satellite projects will dye, stay in the hobby market, or will give the code base to a big company who will do the final job and sell it through the world as soon as the market will need it.

interesting discussion, but lets keep discussions and philosophy to the forums and not the ticket tracker, thanks.

Any possibility to create a bounty for this, like this has been the case for custom contexts ?

Hmm, use option X to exit the meet-me, and then app_bridge(1.6.2)?

mbrevda, two questions for you :

Would it be possible to do this with FreePBX and asterisk 1.4 ?

How to know how many people would be interested to contribute to the bounty ?

Is it something doable according to you with asterisk ? Or more something for Freeswitch ?

Switching to Asterisk 1.6 is not in our plans because of some compatibility problems with code we have developped.

Perhaps we'll switch one day to Freeswitch, but asterisk 1.6 seems to be a bad option.

  • No.
  • No clue. Why dont you open hit the forums (the proper place for such discussions) and find out?
  • FreePBX dosent currently support FreeSwitch?
  • Can't help you there, other than to say: get over it and fix your code
  • * 1.6 is bad? Really?
