Feature request for multiple parking lots

Reported by: Socs28 Assigned to: tm1000

Description

I know this has been talked about in some places, but I didn't find an official request for it, so I'm putting it in.

The ability to effectively use the multiple parking lot feature of asterisk through FreePBX would be a great feature. I am installing a system for my local city government and the fire department doesn't want to see parked calls for the visitors information center and so on and so forth. This is also going to need to be put into the Aastra script.

  • milestone changed from 2.8 to Cut Line.

It's in the pipeline but probably still a ways out. If your City Government has budget, you might want to consider looking at having FreePBX professional services do it as one option to accelerate it.

That is an option. What kind of dollars do you think we'd be looking at?

Some things have changed and they have gone with separate PBX's at the different locations because of a lack of fiber access, so I won't be able to get funding from them, but I think this would be a great feature

at this point we've examined the multi-parking lot capabilities in Asterisk during the 2.9 and 2.10 development and because of very poor design in how multi-parking lots work in Asterisk we have consciously chosen to delay any such implementation. If future versions significantly improve the multi-parking capabilities then we will continue to re-evalute this.

I have used Ring Groups in the past to create a second parking lot, just needed to point it to unused FXS ports. Tried to do this with virtual and actual extensions, but was unable to get them to appear to ring without an endpoint device (even after extensive internet searching).

Setup Ring Group: ParkingLot?2, Ring Strategy: firstavailable, Extension List: (new parking lot extensions).

Maybe it would be simpler to add a feature that would allow an extension to ring and be monitored even though it does not have a endpoint device associated with it. Maybe this is already done and I just can't find it.

Replying to tm1000:

Parking

Note: I had some inconsistent call retrieval issues when I used "Ring Groups" to forward the calls (Call Park) to unused FXS ports, needed to switch to call "Queues". Within call Queues the Static Agents are the BLF monitored Parking Stations. Ring Strategy - Linear, Autofill - Yes, Skip Busy Agent - Yes+(ringinuse=no), Max Wait Time = Amount of time allowed on Park, Max Callers = How many calls can be Parked, Fail Over Destination = Return Ring Group or process if a call is not picked up from Park after Max Wait Time. I am using Grandstream GXW4024 (24 FXS ports) assigned with the Park Extensions to allow the phone stations to BLF monitor the parked call and retrieve them using the BLF key. This solution works great with the flexibility of the Call Queue, but would be better if there was a way to have a virtual extension that could be BLF monitored, removing the extra piece of hardware. Hope this helps someone.
