FreePBX® to support Asterisk 1.4

So what’s going on with Asterisk 1.4 and the plans to “End of Life” version 1.2? If you have not already heard, it was decided at the recent Asterisk Developers Conference: “One decision that we took was to stop maintaining 1.2 as a current release from August 1st 2007. At that date, we will move 1.2 of Asterisk, Asterisk-addons, libpri and zaptel to security maintenance status. 1.4 will at that point be the recommended release.”

What does this mean for FreePBX® since it only supports Asterisk 1.2 today?

I didn’t get a lot of feedback from last week’s article on what you wanted to hear so I scanned the forums a bit and decided the IVR generated enough questions that I would put together an article going into a bit of depth on this. Well – it grew a lot longer then anticipated but here you go. Contest Results & What Makes freePBX ‘tick’

I’ll start by thanking all the participants for the time they took to enter our contest and provide such great feedback! Choosing a winner was a hard choice – so I avoided the task and delegated it to two members of the team who independently chose a set of top winners . Why so quiet lately?

We haven’t posted anything for a while, so here is a ‘ping’ to let you know all is well and healthy. We had a big problem with spam on the forum system which has kept us busy. I think we have managed to stop the spam so come back and start helping to rebuild that community! One of the drastic measures we took was to inactivate all accounts that had never posted. So if you are having problems – this could be it. There may also be a glitch in receiving new registration confirmation email – so please let us know (you can comment here) if that is occuring, we are still trying to track it down.
