Hey Everybody,

As we add more members to the FreePBX development team at Sangoma, we want to make sure that you as a community have the chance to get to know who they are.  Recently, we have had a couple of new additions to the team, Rahul Verma and Akbar Khan.  I asked them to answer a few questions about themselves so that you can learn a bit more about them (similar to the last time I did this).

Our first will be from Rahul:

1.) Where you’re from/grew up?
I grew up in city Agra which lies in the western part of Uttar Pradesh. It is famous for two things: monuments and food petha. Once I completed higher studies, I moved to Dehradun in 2015 to pursue more knowledge in computers. I have completed my Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in 2019.

2.) How did you got into working in telephony?
I got into working in telephony as FreePBX is open source, web-based and management famous tool, many organization and people using it to connect.
For the last 2 years, I was using FreePBX to setup phones, in my previous organization using it to handle customer calls from the US and India. This created more interest to get into this field – using the scripting language PHP and database mainly to help setup functionality in Asterisk and generate a configuration file that is used by the phone. And these experiences helped me to get into Sangoma in November of 2020.

3.) What is your favourite part about working on FreePBX?
My favourite part of working on FreePBX is the Endpoint Manager module. Using Endpoint Manager a user can set most of the features of IP phones like
backup server, outbound proxy, inbound proxy, extensions and templates. It supports most of brands of telephone. Just create one template and use for particular brand models.

4.) Is there an area you’d like to see improved in the project?
Yes, as new brands of phones are coming with new features as well as our own phone models, they should be updated within FreePBX and kept up to date to give the world the best support to our customers.

5.) What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Apart from work, I love to watch a web series and to travel.

Next we’ll hear from Akbar:

1.) Where you’re from/grew up?
Well I was born and brought up in Bangalore, India.

2.) How you got into working in telephony?
This is my first time in the telephony industry, prior to which I worked on PHP and related technologies for startups in the ecommerce space.

3.) What is your favourite part about working on FreePBX?
I think the best part of FreePBX is that it is open source – where we work with a large community of people.

4.) Is there an area you’d like to see improved in the project?
Since its open source project we could code with the latest PSR standards.

5.) What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When not working, you could find me playing games like cricket and carron or even watching tv-series.

We’re glad to have you both working on the FreePBX team!  Hopefully you as a community will have the opportunity to get to know them better through the community forums and on git.freepbx.org via their code contributions.

Best wishes,
Matthew Fredrickson
